Description
This easy piñata cake looks simple on the outside but hides a fun candy surprise inside. It’s made with basic cake layers, simple buttercream, and everyday pantry ingredients. Perfect for birthdays, family gatherings, or any day that needs a little joy without extra stress.
Ingredients
Cake Layers
2 to 3 round vanilla cake layers (8-inch), completely cooled
1½ to 2 cups buttercream frosting (homemade or store-bought)
Filling
1 to 1½ cups sprinkles, mini chocolate candies, or small candy pieces
Instructions
Bake the cake layers according to your recipe and let them cool completely before assembling.
Place one cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand to create the base.
Using a small knife, carefully cut a circular hole in the center of the remaining cake layers, leaving about 1 inch of cake around the edges.
Stack the hollowed cake layer on top of the bottom layer.
Fill the center cavity with sprinkles or candy, keeping the filling level with the cake layer.
Place the final cake layer on top to seal the filling inside.
Apply a thin crumb coat of buttercream over the entire cake and chill briefly if needed.
Frost the cake fully with buttercream, smoothing or texturing as desired.
Slice straight down through the center to reveal the candy surprise and serve immediately.
Notes
Use lightweight candy to prevent the layers from shifting.
Avoid overfilling the center or the cake may become unstable.
This cake is best served the same day so the candy stays crisp.
