Description

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 large eggs, room temperature

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled

  • ½ cup neutral oil

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 4 ounces dark chocolate, melted and slightly cooled


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, gently mix the eggs, melted butter, oil, milk, and vanilla until combined.

  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix slowly until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. Fold in the melted chocolate until the batter is smooth but still thick.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.

  8. Cool completely before frosting or serving.

Notes

  • For the fudgiest texture, avoid overbaking. Moist crumbs are the goal.

  • This cake tastes even better after resting for several hours or overnight.
